Chief Investigator Jonathan Lawson has 20 plus years in Law Enforcement. During his career, Chief Lawson was employed with the Spartanburg City Police Department as a Narcotic investigator assigned to the FBI Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force and a K-9 Handler. Cheif Lawson recieved honors while employed with the Spartanburg City Police Department for 2005 Directors award of excellence, 2005 Officer of the year, 2006 Optimist Club of Spartanburg Officer of the year, and 2012 Life Saving Award.  Chief Lawson has also been employed with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office for several years, where he was assigned as the supervisor with the Crime Scene unit, in which he was responsible for all Homicide and Violent crime investigations which involved crime scene documentation, evidence collection, and evidence processing.  He is a member of the Coroner’s Association and the South Carolina Division of the international association for identification.  Chief Lawson has obtained extensive training in wound pattern analysis, shooting incident reconstruction, marijuana analysis, crime scene investigator school, coroner’s school, medico legal death investigation, autoerotic death investigation, Crime Scene reconstruction, latent print examination and Identification, Hazmat operations, grade crossing collision investigation, Advanced Homicide Investigation and many other specialized training fields. Mr. Lawson also recived Solicitors 2019 award for Investigative Excellence, 2019 Investigator of the Year for the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office, and 2021 Deputy Coroner of the year through the South Carolina Coroner's Association. 2023 Deputy Coroner of the year for the South Carolina Coroner's Association. Chief Lawson is the current Upstate commander for the South Carolina Mortuarty Assistance Strike Team. Chief Lawson is also the Co-Chair for the Upstate Heatlh Care Coalition Training Division. Chief Lawson is a native of Spartanburg County and graduate from Paul M. Dorman High School.

Investigator Kacie Brown grew up in Union, South Carolina where she graduated from Union High School and attended Spartanburg Methodist College on a softball and life scholarship.  Investigator Brown has 20 years of experience in prosthetics and orthotics and is a BOC Certified Pedorthist.  Investigator Brown joined the Spartanburg County Coroners in 2022 where she became certified in Child death investigations, conducting reenactments in child death investigations and crime scene investigations/reconstruction.  Investigator Brown is looking forward to furthering her career and knowledge with Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office. 

Investigator Dennis Brown joined the Spartanburg County Coroners Office in 2022, after 11 years working for Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and 6 years at Landrum Police Department, along with 27 years in the fire service. Graduated the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, He has several years of training to include Law-Enforcement, Firefighting, US Department of Homeland Security and FEMA training centers. Crime Scene Investigations and Reconstruction, Conducting Reenactments in Child Death Investigations, Child Death Investigations, Fire cause Investigations, Hazardous Materials Operations, Basic Interior Firefighter and is a (BLS) Basic Life Support instructor, Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician. Dennis grew up in Greenwood South Carolina before moving to Spartanburg County. He looks forward to several years of working with the Coroners Office.

Investigator Ellen Holmes is a native of Spartanburg County. She attended Spartanburg High School and received Bachelor of Science degrees in both biology (Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC) and nursing (Queens College in Charlotte, NC). Investigator Holmes was previously an ABMDI certified investigator with the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office from March 2010 to November 2015.  After a few years off, Investigator Holmes returned to the Coroner’s Office part time in August 2020. Investigator Holmes is a Registered Nurse and previously worked at the Medical University of South Carolina – Charleston, SC, Greenville Memorial Hospital – Greenville, SC, and Spartanburg Regional Medical Center – Spartanburg, SC in various areas of practice. Her primary emphasis is neonates and pediatrics however has worked in other areas including cardiac, orthopedics, and research.

Investigator Mark Link is a U.S. Army Veteran and the Vice President of an electrical business here in Spartanburg. He joined the Coroner's Office in 2015.  Investigator Link volunteers his time to his community and the Coroner's Office. Mark is a member of the South Carolina Coroner's Association.
 

Investigator Monica Link has an Associate's Degree in Marketing/Business, Paralegal Degree and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She attended Greenville Technical College, USC and Converse College. Investigator Link joined the Coroner's Office in 2015. Monica is the Office Manager of the family business and volunteers for her community. She is a member of the South Carolina Coroner's Association.
